James C. O’Rourke James C. O’Rourke graduated in 1964 with a B.A.Sc. degree in Mining Engineering from the University of British Columbia. He gained valuable mine development and operating experience while involved in the start–up phase of five major mines over 14 years with Placer Development Limited. Jim has more than 40 years of hands–on experience in mine evaluations, development, project financing, marketing and operations in Canada, the United States, South America and the Philippines. As President of Princeton Mining Corporation (1987–1997), he was responsible for the acquisition and operations of the Similco open pit copper mine; the evaluation, financing and development of the Cassiar underground block cave mine; and the acquisition, evaluation, financing and development the Huckleberry open pit copper mine in northern BC. The Huckleberry project was completed on schedule at its budgeted cost.
Jim is President and a founding shareholder of Copper Mountain Mining Corporation for which he was responsible for the acquisition, financing and development of the mine. Copper Mountain mine was fast tracked to production on schedule and on the $430 million budget. He is past Chairman of Compliance Energy Corporation, Director of JDL Gold Corporation, and a director of numerous private companies in mining and property development. Jim has served as a director of the Mining Association of Canada (1987–1990), the Vancouver Board of Trade (1990) and Chairman (1992) and Director (1987–Present) of the British Columbia Mining Association. Jim was the 2005 recipient of the Edgar A. Scholz Medal for Excellence in Mine Development in British Columbia and the Yukon, and the recipient of the Mining Person of the Year award for British Columbia in 2010. In 2011 he was a recipient of the Order of British Columbia for his economic contributions to mine development in British Columbia. In 2013 Jim was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.
Rodney A. (Rod) Shier, CPA-CA
Director, Chief Financial Officer & Corporate Secretary
Rodney A. Shier, CA graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1986 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1989 while articling at the international accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he also worked overseas for two years. Mr. Shier has over twenty years experience as a corporate officer and director to a number of publicly–traded mining companies, and has experience in raising over $1 billion in debt and equity financing transactions. Currently, Mr. Shier is Chief Financial Officer, Director and a founding shareholder of Copper Mountain Mining Corporation. Mr. Shier’s responsibilities include all aspects of the Company’s financial operations, controls and financial disclosure, as well as maintaining the Company’s corporate records, in addition to overseeing all aspects of the Company’s investor relations activities. Rod is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia and the 2013 recipient of the Edgar A. Scholz Medal for Excellence In Mine Development in British Columbia.
Peter Holbek, BSc. (Hons) M.Sc., P.Geo
Vice President Exploration
Peter Holbek graduated in 1981 from The University of British Columbia with a B.Sc.(hons) in geology and an M.Sc. in Economic Geology (1988), and has 35 years of experience in mineral exploration and mine development. Prior to joining Copper Mountain Mining, he served as Vice President for Western Keltic Mines and Blackstone Ventures working for 5 years on the discovery and development of VMS and Nickel deposits. He served as Vice President, Exploration for Atna Resources Ltd. for six years and, prior to that, as Exploration Manager and mine geologist for Princeton Mining Ltd. From 1984 to 1993 he was employed as senior exploration geologist for Esso Minerals Canada and subsequently, Homestake Canada Ltd.
William (Bill) Mracek, P.Eng
Vice President Mining
Bill Mracek graduated from University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a professional engineer registered in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia. Bill has 40 years of practical and management experience in both underground and surface mines across Canada. Prior to Copper Mountain he was Vice President and General Manager at Thompson Creek’s Endako mine and Vice President and General Manager for Huckleberry Mines Ltd.
Richard J. Joyes, BSc. Geo
Senior Exploration Geologist
Richard Joyes graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1999 with a bachelors degree majoring in ore–deposit geology and moved to Western Australia where he worked on Archean Gold–Lode deposits within the Yandal Belt as both a production and underground mine geologist for Normandy and Newmont Mining Ltd. In 2004, Richard moved from Australia to Canada and began work as an exploration geologist exploring for precious metal deposits, porphyry Cu–Au and Nickel–Cobalt sulphide deposits in south–central B.C.
With a particular focus on 3D modeling, mineral inventory and deposit estimation and database administration, Richard brings a wide variety of both field and computer based skills to the exploration team.
